The community of Omagh and especially our partnership with parents is vital to enhancing the learning opportunities and experiences. The commitment of our partners and support for the children and young people to learn has developed into a strong Parent Association called the Friends of Arvalee. This is social and fundraising body, consisting primarily of parents and staff but could include other people interested in helping the school.

The purpose of the parent association is to provide a structure through which the parents or guardians of children attending Arvalee School and Resource Centre can work together for the best possible education for their children. They organise and run social events to encourage parents to meet, get to know each other and share information and experiences. They also provide information sessions to help parents so they know where they can access help and support for their child.

The Friends of Arvalee do vital fundraising throughout the year. This help is vital as it aids the financing of educational visits, staff training and other educational resources that cannot be paid for out of the school budget. Some of these activities would not happen if it were not for the support of the Friends of Arvalee. They also work closely with the school and local community to support the companies who have sponsored the School's Inspiration Project.

The Friends of Arvalee was established in December 2005 and meets approximately once a month. They may meet with more regularity closer to the event being organised. Their support and work was essential to the school throughout the difficult days of the fire in 2012 and have developed a close working practice with the School leadership. As members of the National Confederation of Parent Teacher Associations they ensure that all fundraising is focussed on providing quality experiences and resources for the children.
